Artificial Artifacts
Dana Korre's work questions the purpose of artificial creations in lieu of natural resources, these sculptures act as a reminder to appreciate the beauty found within nature but to also be conscious of its organic source and sustainability on our earth. By using newspaper as the foundation to her sculptures the artist reverts the material back to wooden imitations through binding, carving and painting the surface. Resin is then applied to create a polished mineral appearance in her pieces. Her work can mimic nature but never serve a purpose in its intricate environmental ecosystem.
